He founded the snowshoe movement in the United States, and was first president of the Union Américain des Raquetteurs. As a radio host, he presented L’Oeil et Son Autueur on local station WCOU (q.v.). <text>The collection includes information on Madeleine Dinora Giguère’s (1925-2004) early life and education, but focuses on her academic career at the University of Southern Maine. In addition to many publications and conference papers, the collection features her research on the US census and its ancestry data, as well as her research for classes on Franco-American studies. Giguère, the only child of Dr. Eustache and Dinora (Cailler) Giguere was an internationally recognized sociologist, known locally and regionally as “la marraine” (the godmother) of Franco-Americans. Ms. Giguère had a long and distinguished academic career, specializing in ethnic and women’s issues. After her local education in Lewiston, Maine, Giguère went on to obtain higher degrees at the Ursulines’ College of New Rochelle, Fordham University, and Columbia University. Professor Giguère taught at St. Joseph’s College (Standish, Maine) and Boston College before accepting a position at the University of Southern Maine in Portland & Gorham, Maine, in 1967. She served there for more than two decades, establishing Franco American Studies as a legitimate and important part of her curriculum.</text>

<text>Press ID card for Muhammed Ali/Sonny Liston Heavyweight Championship boxing match held at St Dominic's Arena in Lewiston, Maine. The card belonged to Paul Labbé, himself a known local boxer, who was to serve as an additional judge for the match.

Sonny Liston became world heavyweight champion in 1962. The first match between Liston and Clay in February of 1964 was highly anticipated, with Liston the favorite to win. However, Clay won when Liston forfeited due to an injury - the first time a heavyweight championship fight had been forfeited since 1919.

The controvesial nature of Clay's win led the World Boxing Council to seek a re-match, and the Boston Garden was originally chosen, but pulled out due to licensing concerns. The Central Maine Youth Arena (formerly St Dominic's Arena) in Lewiston, Maine, was selected as the venue - one of the smallest ever to host a heavyweight championship.

Muhammed Ali had already changed his name from Cassius Clay by the time this match was scheduled, but promoters billed it as the "Clay-Liston" fight nonetheless.

Rather than the 15 rounds promised on this card, the fight lasted only a few seconds. In the middle of the first round, Liston was felled by a punch that the crowd didn't see, and Ali was unsure if it had connected. There were allegations of match-fixing by Liston, but these were never proven. The match did result in a celebrated photo of an angry Ali standing over the fallen Liston, exhorting him to get up and fight.</text>

This commission was issued by Louis XIV, King of France, in 1651. It not only appoints Charles de Saint-Étienne de la Tour governor and lieutenant-general of the French colony of Acadia, but more importantly it confirms an earlier appointment for those positions made by Louis XVI’s father, Louis XIII, in 1631. It also exonerates La Tour for his actions during the civil strife in Acadia between 1635 and 1645, and it goes further to criticize La Tour’s rival d’Aulnay for having prevented La Tour from exercising his lawful authority by favoring “enemies and accusations and suppositions that were not able to be verified and of which the said Saint-Étienne was absolved on the sixteenth of February last” (nine days prior to the issuance of the commission).</text>
